Guidelines for Heat Treatment and Fabrication

Heat TreatmentROCKSTAR 400 Plates were hardened by quenching and, if necessary, repeated tempering. The hardness of Rockstar plates may be diminished when exposed to temperatures above 200°C. As a result, Rockstar plates are not meant for additional heat treatment.
Cold FormingROCKSTAR 400 Plates with excellent internal steel cleanliness and uniformity are formable. The suggested minimum bending radius for plates up to 20 mm thick is specified in standard tables.
Welding MethodLower carbon equivalent of ROCKSTAR plates results in good weldability. All conventional welding methods like manual electric welding, submerged arc welding, inert gas welding can be applied.
Thermal CuttingRockstar plates are compatible with all thermal cutting processes including oxy-plasma, laser. Preheating of 100 to 150°C is recommended for plates thicker than 20 mm (10 mm for Rockstar 500). Excess preheating above 200 C may reduce the hardness of Rockstar.
